Texel Guinea Pig
Texel guinea pigs are long-haired piggies, with curly soft hair that appears in ringlets down their back. Their heads are generally wider and rounded in appearance. Because of their beauty and uniqueness, Texels are a popular choice of ‘show’ pig and require a great deal of dedication and commitment to keep them looking their best.
| APPEARANCE: Long-haired, with curly, soft hair (often appearing in ringlets).
| FUN FACTS: The Texel breed originates from England. They are a popular choice as ‘show’ pigs because they are so beautiful but their coats require a lot of time and dedication to look after.
| PERSONALITY: Known for being bold and curious.
| HANDLING: Generally easy to handle but they are not a breed we’d recommend for children due to their grooming requirements.
| GROOMING: Regular hair grooming is essential as a Texel’s coat is prone to tangling. It will also need trimming regularly to keep it under control. To maintain good hygiene, Texels will also need their hair washed from time to time, particularly around their bottom where the long hair can drag in urine and faeces.
