Peruvian Guinea Pig
Of all the guinea pig breeds, the Peruvian is arguably the most striking, with long, flowing locks spilling over its forehead and out from the spine of its back. It'll come as no surprise that the Peruvian piggies have the longest hair of all guinea pig breeds and were originally bred as a show pig. They come in a range of colours including the popular tri-colour and cream and white varieties. Peruvian guinea pigs are generally very sociable, curious like creatures, and love the attention of their humans.
| APPEARANCE: Long, straight hair, generally parted down the spine. Scalp hair tends to fall down over its eyes.
| FUN FACTS: The longest hair ever recorded on a guinea pig was over 20 inches long! It was recorded (as you've probably guessed!) on the back of a Peruvian guinea pig.
| PERSONALITY: Known for being curious and alert and fond of humans. Often very affectionate.
| HANDLING: Generally easy to handle as they like the attention.
| GROOMING: Very regular hair grooming is essential. Ideally every day to avoid the hair getting knotted and collecting debris. Regular trimming of the hair is also required as it can grow as much as an inch every month.
